After receiving a letter quite the same as this one from a friend and co-worker I decided to join her and set my feet a walking! The weekend of July 12 -14, I will be joining over 3,000 participants in the Avon Breast Cancer 3-day, 60 mile trek from San Jose to San Francisco, in an effort to raise money to combat breast cancer. My friend and co-worker, Christine Payseur and I have formed a team named the "Faith Walkers". We know God will be with us in order to endure the sore feet, sore muscles, sleeping in 2-man tents over-nite (who knows where) and sharing common shower and bathroom facilities (YUCK!!). Why, you may ask? Not because I left my heart in San Fran, I may leave my feet there after this walk though!

Is she crazy you might think? Anyone who knows me already knows the answer to that! I thought so too the day after I signed up, but then I thought about it and realized what a wonderful opportunity it was for me to make a difference and something much more important, to make people aware. I'm sure everyone knows someone or someone who knows someone who has been affected by this disease. Two names come to my heart and they are true survivors! The effects of this cancer and other horrific cancers, those we love who are diagnosed, their strength and ability to teach us how precious life is.

Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death for all women, and the leading cause of death in women between the ages of 40 and 55. Both its cause and the means for a cure remain undiscovered. Currently, one million American women have the disease, but don't know it, and probably won't know about their potentially fatal illness for another five to eight years.

Proceeds from this walk will not only go toward research, but to programs designed to provide medically underserved women with direct access to breast health education and early detection services.

Having a rather recent cancer scare myself, I truly know how very important education, pre-screening and diagnostic surgeries can be. Without proceeds from an event such as this, where would I be?

As part of my commitment to this event, I have agreed to raise at least $1,900 in pledges between now and June 14. The net proceeds will benefit Avon's Breast Cancer Awareness Crusade, a non-profit accredited public charity. If you can help me meet this goal, it would greatly be appreciated. Reaching out to help those who will never even know our name is a beautiful example of kindness. My mission is to reach this goal and walk the 60 miles.

Would you please consider making a fully tax-deductible pledge to help me make my goal before June 14th? Please support me and help millions of women by donating as generously as possible. Your donation is fully tax deductible and the money raised will go towards funding access to care and finding a cure for breast cancer. Any amount you can donate, large or small, will help further the fight against this devastating disease.

You can make Online Donations using your debit or credit card. You can also download the Donation Form and print it out. You’ll need my participant number which is: 6039 in San Francisco.

Thank you in advance for your generosity and for supporting me in this endeavor!
